Daisy, Young Female, 30 pounds, Richmond VA

Hello. My name is Daisy, and I’m an 8-month-old beagle/mix. I am looking for a home with a tall, fenced yard and another dog who wants to be my fur-bestie-playmate. Right now I race my foster-brother Kelton around the yard and I love it when he pounces and plays with me.  I also love it when my foster mom lets me stretch out under the covers and sleep with her.

I can get really into a good game of tug with a rope, stick or leftover toy. Long walks and car rides are totally great for me. And I LOVE those frozen peanut butter & carrot KONGs that my foster mom gives me and Kelton when we go in our crates. I am working on my training right now and am learning to “leave it” and give up a toy when I am asked.

Birdie, Young Female, 45 pounds, Richmond VA

They call me Birdie…well my foster parents sometimes call me "Birdieroo" because I can jump so high that they think I must be part kangaroo!  I've finished my heartworm treatment and have even gone through formal e-collar training. I know several commands and my foster Mom is continuing to work with me using positive reinforcement techniques. I'm doing a great job. I'm just really smart and full of energy so sometimes I need help focusing. My new person and/or family will need to commit to continuing to work with me on my manners. I do very well in my crate as long as I get enough exercise when I am out and I've never met a squeaky toy or person that I don’t love to play with.

I'm looking for an active home that can keep me busy but the most important thing to me is to be able to be around my people who I love to cuddle with on the couch and watch TV at the end of the day.
I get super excited around other dogs so the great folks at MomsVA think I would do best as an only dog or in a home with a young, very playful, middle- to large-sized male dog. My forever home should not have cats as I have a very strong prey drive. I’m kinda bouncy, so young children would not be best right now because I might accidentally knock them over in my excitement.

Even after my rough start in life, I am still full of joy and silliness. I make my foster family laugh every day! If you are looking for a loyal and loving furry family member and think we could be a match, click here.

Captain and Tennille, Adult Bonded Pair, 20 pounds each, Richmond VA

Hello!  I’m Captain and I’m half of the AMAZING team of Captain and Tennille (the photos say it all!).  We are both around 5 years young and 20 pounds small.  We are looking for our forever home where we can live out our lives together. We play with each other when we are awake and snuggle together when we sleep.  Tennille is my BFFF (Best Fur Friend Forever)! I snuggle with her all day and she loves to PLAY and wrestle with me!! I can be pretty energetic but Tennille just can’t get enough of me. I am very smart and am learning commands from my foster mom.

We hope to find a very special home that is just right for both of us.  Tennille and I are doing great with our crate-training and house-training. We are both trying to kick the habit, but we have been known to dig and chew on things like rocks outside. Tennille can get scared around new sounds that happen in a home like the blender, vacuum, and plastic bags rustling (although neither of us is scared of thunder or fireworks). Tennille is a happy friendly girl, but she doesn’t like to be held too long by humans – so if you want to snuggle, I’m your guy!  I’m used to watching out for Tennille so I can also be a little protective of her or my people when new folks approach. Because children can be unpredictable, a home without kids is best for us right now.

Tennille is very friendly and does much better than me on a leash walk. Sometimes my beagle-senses get the best of me and I can be a bit of a handful if I see bicycles moving or I pick up a scent of something I’d like to chase. For this reason my foster mom calls me a ‘flight risk’ so I need a home where I won’t encounter open doors and open gates – probably a nice fenced yard would be great for me and Tennille. I also have a little medical condition where I get seizures. I haven’t had one since I started on my medicine so I will need to stay on that and it costs around $30 month.

I know that Tennille and I need a very special person or family that will understand some of our special needs. I just know the right one is out there!  We promise to make you laugh and warm your heart with our wrestling and snuggling and we will do our best to learn how to feel safe as we get used to new environments and experiences.
